Two Conflicting Interpretations of the Dream Adhan
A man came to Ibn Sirin (RA) and said, “O Imam! I had a dream that I was calling the Adhan (the call to prayer).” Ibn Sirin told him, “Your hands will be cut off because of stealing.”
Later, another man came with the same dream. This time, Ibn Sirin said, “You will go for Hajj (pilgrimage).”
His students were surprised by the completely different meanings of two identical dreams and asked him for an explanation.
Ibn Sirin explained that he first studied the character of both men. He saw signs of wrongdoing in the first man, so he interpreted the dream based on a Quranic verse: “Then a caller proclaimed: ‘O people of the caravan! Surely, you are thieves!'”
For the second man, he noticed signs of goodness and piety, so he interpreted the dream using another Quranic verse: “And proclaim (O Ibrahim) to the people about Hajj!”
The person narrating this incident confirmed that events happened exactly as the Imam had predicted. Sometimes, the Adhan in a dream can symbolize an announcement, information, or notification.
